Short answer: With the 2024 Land Rover Defender with a retrofitted 700-watt Meridian amplifier, all speakers often fail to work after installation — the amplifier is physically installed, but not registered in the vehicle network software-side. We update the audio control unit, assign the VIN to the new amplifier, and activate the Meridian Surround function — completely OEM.
A technical highlight for true sound enjoyment
Today, we had a very special project in the workshop: a brand-new 2024 Land Rover Defender, where the customer had the optional 700-watt sound system with an original Meridian amplifier retrofitted directly by Land Rover. However, even though the hardware was now present, the Meridian Surround function remained software-deactivated – as is often the case with current Land Rover models.
The customer had already made several attempts through various workshops and even directly through the manufacturer to activate the feature – without success.
Until he came to us.
What was the problem?
After Land Rover installed the original 700-watt amplifier, not a single speaker in the vehicle worked anymore. The sound was completely gone – because although the amplifier was installed, it was not integrated into the vehicle software-side. Basic configurations were missing, including:

Control unit software update

Assignment of the VIN to the new amplifier

Activation of audio functions in the vehicle network
Without these steps, the amplifier remains virtually "invisible" to the vehicle – and consequently produces no sound.
Our solution
First, we performed a complete software update of the newly installed amplifier. Then, we manually wrote the correct Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the device – a step that is absolutely necessary for the amplifier to be correctly registered in the vehicle network.
Only after this did sound come from the speakers again – but we went one step further:
✅ Meridian Surround Sound correctly activated
✅ Sound profiles fully loaded
✅ No shoddy work, no intermediate modules – everything OEM-compliant
The result: a noticeably improved sound and premium-level surround sound.
The customer was not just satisfied – he was overjoyed. Finally, his sound system was what he had envisioned when he purchased the amplifier.
